Development of organic conjugated materials for photovoltaic application.
Solar flux is unlimited and environmentally friendly energy resource evaluated as a potential primary energy source for the future. Commercialized silicon solar cells satisfy the high efficiencies but encounter the practical problems because they need costly processes to make, require large space to install and are heavy to bring. Thus, solution-processible solar cells are expected to be an alternative technology suitable for portable devices, building integrated photovoltaics and flexible electronic devices. Organic conjugated materials are light, less toxic and suitable for the thin film fabrication via simple and low-temperature solution-process. Thus, the development of high-performance organic materials for photovoltaic application is timely important. First, we developed various light-harvesting organic materials including wide bandgap polymers, small-molecule donors and acceptors, and near-infrared absorption porphyrin derivatives for organic solar cells. Second, organic hole transporting materials with long-term storage stability were developed for low-temperature process perovskite solar cells. The detailed studies will be discussed in the seminar.
