Library construction of various N-heterocyclic compounds via direct synthesis and 
C-H functionalization

Abstract: 
N-Heterocyclic compounds are ubiquitous in biochemistry, material chemistry and organic chemistry. They have provided important bioactivities as well as unique functional properties. Some OLED materials for electron transport comprise N-heterocycles. Furthermore, quaternary N-heterocyclic salts can be easily transformed to N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), which are used as catalysts in organocatalysis and ligands in transition metal catalysis. They are also available in the name of ionic liquids for the broad applications because of high solvating power, thermal and chemical stabilities, high conducting properties, and low vapor pressure. Recognizing the importance of N-heterocycles, our research interest led us to develop a mild and efficient synthesis of N-heterocycles and apply them in catalysis.
In this seminar, a direct synthesis of ionic liquids1-2 and fused N-heterocycles3 and Pd-catalyzed CH arylations of fused N-heterocycles4 we recently discovered will be discussed.
